NAME: Ann Takamaki
CANON: Persona 5
CANON POINT: Post game, Platonic Rank 10 Confidant. CRAU from Duplicity.
AGE: 17
BACKGROUND: Here. Ann also spent six months in Duplicity, a city divided into an upper and lower class. Ann was sorted into the upper class, and despite the fact that she hated every minute of it and wanted nothing more than to smash the system, she was advised by a close friend that they should follow the rules and bide their time until the right moment. She signed a contract and pretended to be obedient, despite taking every opportunity to bad mouth the program or rebel against it, including playing vigilante in the lower class sector. She was also required to have sex no less than three times a month, or else face 're-education.' Already angry that she was having the choice of 'when' taken away from her, Ann decided to comply in order to prevent having her choice of 'who' and 'how' taken away, as well. While Ann's personality remains mostly unchanged after her stay in Duplicity, she did start to explore and become more comfortable with her sexuality, as well as romance. She fell in love with and started dating her fellow Phantom Thief, Ryuji Sakamoto.
PERSONALITY:
♦ Compassionate, with a strong sense of justice: While the entirety of the Phantom Thieves are driven by their strong sense of justice, compassion towards others is what truly drives Ann to reform society. After she and her best friend had become the victims of an abusive volleyball coach, Ann made it her mission to ensure that the weak would never be exploited under her watch again. She despises people who would use their influence to manipulate others, or those who would stand idly by while others are being harmed. This extends even to herself; Ann is an incredibly harsh judge of her own actions, picking them apart and denying the protagonist when he offers up platitudes and tells her it wasn't her fault. Though she knows Kamoshida alone is responsible for his own actions, she places heavy blame on herself for doing nothing to help before it was too late.
However, it's her compassion that allows her room to forgive others, as she does after confronting a fellow teammate, Makoto, for doing nothing when she was aware of Kamoshida's abuses. Yet, after hearing Makoto's side of the story and realizing that she had been in a strikingly similar position, Ann reaches out to her with an apology, and persuades her to forgive herself, as well. She can be quick to anger but just as quick to cool, particularly when it comes to people she genuinely cares for. While she doesn't extend the same forgiveness to her enemies, her leniency and mercy can also be proof of her compassion— even if she later admits that letting them live was because she believes living with their guilt is a more suitable punishment than death.
She's often cited as the heart of the group, and is the most likely to reach out emotionally toward her fellow teammates. She can also be quite insightful into the emotions of others, as she is when she realizes from his pained reaction that Yusuke was the one who painted a piece attributed to his mentor, Madarame.
♦ Complicated Sense of Self-Worth: While Ann boasts a lot of confidence in her looks, she's also troubled by the idea that it's all people value about her. Superficial impressions of who she is tend to bother her and lead her to worry that because of how she looks, she won't be accepted for who she is. With regard to her friendship with Shiho, Ann often wondered what she brought to the table— this led her to try to protect Shiho's position on the volleyball team, to prove herself worthy of her time and attention and to be useful to her. Ann expresses that she wants to find a place where she is indispensable and cannot be replaced. She cites cartoonish villainesses as her role models, wanting to be as self-assured and strong as they present them to be. Despite the fact that they often tend to lose, Ann admires their unwavering resilience.
♦ Aimless: Throughout most of the time you spend with Ann in the game, it becomes clear that she is a girl who wants to do, but doesn't know what she wants to do. While her main goal is to 'strengthen her heart,' her means of doing so are incredibly aimless and wandering. She spends most of her confidant scenes flitting between ideas, unable to decide what she wants to do with herself. She flirts with the idea of being an action movie star, but seems to give up on it rather quickly. This is true even with her part-time job as a model. Ann doesn't take it particularly seriously, simply showing up and taking pictures, riding on the connections she has through her family and her good looks. When she decides she wants to exercise, she asks someone else to come up with a plan for her, and only diets half-heartedly.
She isn't completely unserious— it's more that it takes a lot for her to make up her mind, as, when she does set her mind to something, she can and will pursue it tirelessly.
♦ Impulsive and Stubborn: Ann can be prone to acting first and thinking later, something that becomes obvious when she, despite their warnings and being unceremoniously tossed out on her ass, re-enters Kamoshida's palace. When she realizes that they're going to do something about him, she absolutely refuses to take no for an answer and insists that she help. This stubborn nature, while also manifesting in a resilience and determination to never give up, often makes her act impulsively, without fully thinking things through. Though she's capable of seeing her mistakes in hindsight, she lets her own stubbornness in believing she's helping cloud her judgment, when in reality, she simply hasn't considered all of the options. When the coach of the volleyball team threatens to remove her best friend from the starting lineup unless Ann sleeps with him, she doesn't stop to consider that her abilities would be enough to keep her spot. It isn't until later that she realizes she should have simply believed in her friend.
♦ Hotheaded: Ann Takamaki has a temper. Though she is able to keep it mostly a quiet, boiling rage when dealing with the advances of Kamoshida, when she lets loose, she lets loose. She can occasionally have a foul mouth and can explode in violent anger easily, even with her friends. This is particularly true for Ryuji and Yusuke, who often find themselves on the receiving end of her wrath, whether it be for touching her for a few moments too long, or being a complete pervert. She's not shy about yelling at someone when she feels they deserve it. For Ann, it's just easier to act now and apologize for it later, if she needs to.
♦ Sweet-Tooth: Despite constantly complaints that she needs to lose weight, if you put Ann in front of something sweet, it will be eaten. If you put her in front of a dessert buffet… buddy.
POWERS/ABILITIES: Ann has the power of Persona, which she can use by transforming into Panther, her Phantom Thief alter ego. As Panther, Ann wields a whip, and can use several different skills, mostly revolving around utility and fire damage. She can also heal, but can only target a single party member at a time.
For nerfing purposes, her fire attacks will be less devastating, the infliction of sleep and confusion can be resisted (of course, this can be discussed with the other player beforehand) and healing less effective overall if need be. (So it can't get someone from almost dead to perfectly healthy, but still help with serious injuries.)
Her skills are as follows:
â–º Agidyne - Heavy fire damage to one foe.
â–º Blazing Hell - Severe fire damage to all foes.
â–º Fire Break - Suppress innate Fire resistance of all foes for 3 turns.
â–º Tentarafoo - Medium chance of inflicting Confuse to all foes.
â–º Matarunda - Debuffs attack power for all foes.
â–º Diarahan - Fully restore the HP of one ally.
â–º Dormina - High chance of inflicting Sleep to 1 foe.
â–º Dekaja - Negate all buff effects of all foes.
INVENTORY: Ann will be arriving with her whip, her phone (which has no charge, F), a pair of festive red earrings tucked away in a palm-sized box, a modeling portfolio with a few shots of herself, a pair of lacy red underwear and… a toy?
MOONBLESSING: Cordis. Sexy Cat Kitty Woman rides again.
